Jury trial for Humboldt Judge, former and current Public Defender delayed again

Dates in the lawsuit filed by former Humboldt Deputy Public Defender Rory Kalin against Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis, former Public Defender Marek Reavis and current Public Defender Luke Brownfield were continued by stipulation.

Yet, another continuance by stipulation. The lawsuit  involves an incident on a boat where Elvine-Kreis was allegedly drinking and partying with Humboldt Public Defenders, allegedly yelled Jewish slurs, allegedly pushed  former deputy Public Defender Kalin into the water and allegedly indulged in other questionable behavior.

Kalin has made claims of wrongful termination and collusion against Reavis and Brownfield.

Despite this lawsuit, Elvine-Kreis took over as Presiding Judge this year. Exclusive coverage in posts linked below.

Readiness Conference on 6/29 and jury trial on 7/11 vacated. Readines Conference rescheduled for 10/13; jury trial for 10/17.
