This Tuesday, under closed session, the Board of Supervisors will be discussing the lawsuit former Public Defender Rory Kalin filed against Humboldt Superior Court Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis, former Public Defender Marek Reavis and current Public Defender Luke Brownfield.
I bet both Elvine-Kreis's lawyer as well as the County law firm is working on negotiating a settlement. Civil trials continued by stipulation usually mean they want a resolution without a trial and the public getting all the facts.
In addition to all the litigation expenses with yet another lawsuit, you are paying fees for a law firm out of the area because the 5 morons on the BOS cannot make sound decisions to hire competent department heads.
This is a lawsuit only I have covered regularly for months since it was filed.

Other media will once again focus and make the April 12 BOS meeting about another no confidence vote on the Auditor Controller, yet another meaningless gesture.
Lost Coast Outpost has already been flush with election ads for candidates supported and endorsed by good ole boys Rex, Billy et al. North Coast Journal Times Standard and blowhard Brian Papstein's KINS as usual will get the bulk of election advertising from the same group. Storme Winterr gets to run around town during election season playing pretend/unofficial campaign manager for candidates endorsed by the good ole boys and feel like he is somebody. Then they can all sit around and whine about the good ole days and bad mouth Mexicans and Native Americans taking over.
Many in the local political left cabal ignores what they want as do many the local freedumb wannabe conservatives who play both sides. They comment on LOCO and Facebook constantly and their only alliance is money and the agenda dictated by Humboldt overlords who they think care about them.
Political labels are irrelevant in Humboldt. There are so called local conservatives who consistently support and advertise with and privately bad mouth the same media and businesses when convenient. Maybe there is no bad mouthing now because these media sources aren't calling them out and doing coverage more to their liking? Go back 10 or even 6 years and see the coverage LOCO, NCJ did of Rex and company vs now and their coverage of Karen Paz Dominguez vs now.
The BOS will do anything to distract taxpayers except provide answers on how they spend your money.
On June 7, is your vote going to be based on your own research, on information that is independent and from sources watching out for you or are you going to allow your vote to be swayed with smoke and mirrors?
Do not allow the same people to continue to be in power and get richer when year after year your bank account has been impacted, your businesses struggle, your savings are depleted, your rights trampled on, your health affected and crime continues to grow. These people only care about what works for them and they dismiss you except when election season rolls around and they need your vote.
