Correctional deputy injured in assault yesterday by Austin Medeiros

The suspect, Austin Medeiros is already in custody for the Kneeland homicide. Guess his preliminary hearing next week for that case will be continued by defense.

Mediros already has a probation violation 2016 case which is trailing the homicide case.

His bail amounts are listed as 1 million for one case, $35,000 for another and $25,000 for another but that might be adjusted so I will update later. Medeiros has already wasted enough law enforcement, jail staff, court and PIO time and resources in multiple counties.

The preliminary hearing for all his Humboldt cases should be waived at arraignment for this case. This criminal should beg the DA for a plea instead of wasting court and time because there is probable cause.

Will there be doubt to be declared or the insanity defense ploy so that this violent repeat offender can go waste more taxpayer dollars at a state hospital,  be sent back a few months later and the cycle repeat?

PC 187 (a) defines murder as "the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought."

Medeiros is charged with murder of a woman unable to defend herself after he allegedly assaulted the caregiver. We will find out if there is a preliminary hearing and/or jury trial what the evidence is in the Kneeland homicide and if there was any surveillance. While in custody, Medeiros had the faculties to improvise a weapon, he knew what he was doing in a facility with cameras. Had it not been a correctional deputy, Medeiros could have been booked for a second murder.

HCSO Press Release:

A correctional deputy was injured Wednesday during an assault inside the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.

On April 27, 2022, at about 6:10 p.m., a correctional deputy conducting an inmate count within the facility’s maximum security housing unit was assaulted by 27-year-old inmate Austin Michael Medeiros. Medeiros reportedly attacked the correctional deputy with an improvised weapon. The deputy sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.

Medeiros is currently being held inside the correctional facility on charges of murder (PC 187(a)), assault (PC 240), battery (PC 242), fleeing a peace officer (VC 2800.4) and possession of a controlled substance (HS 11377(a)).

As a result of this incident, Medeiros was booked on additional charges of attempted murder (PC 664/187(a)), assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm (PC 245(a)(1)), possession of a deadly weapon by a prisoner (PC 4502(a)), manufacturing a weapon in prison (PC 4502(b)), battery on a custodial officer (PC 243.1) and resisting a peace officer (PC 69).
