"I hope that you five will see this as an invitation to become more familiar with the problems and solutions since it is clear to me that our DHHS is not and it is your job to supervise DHHS and ensure that pts are being adequately treated".

An email was sent by Dr. Wilson to the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. Dr. Wilson evaluates many of the defendants in the courts and is very familiar with the challenges in providing mental health services.

Law enforcement and courts have to pick up the slack for DHHS and BOS failures. There is also a reference in the email about a NAMI event that others in the community may want to attend.

Instead of daily diatribes for their political agenda, how about the BOS stop giving themselves raises, provide a Laura's Law update and get Connie Beck and DHHS to provide details about their budget, specifically money spent on administrative salaries. If we had other local media doing their job, accountability for the BOS and all County departments would be featured, not selective coverage convenient to the BOS who seem to think they can do whatever with taxpayer money.

I am not going to list all my previous posts on Laura's Law or other related posts that have vital information that Dr. Wilson has raised published on this blog. Google or find the posts via the search feature. Some of the coverage is linked below.

Dr. Wilson's email:

"Hello Supervisors Bohn, Bass, Bushnell, Madrone and Wilson,

I received this from NAMI this am.

Dr. Insel is a world expert in MH and just wrote a book about our broken MH system. It is excellent and available on Audible (for any of you that, like me, like to listen to books while doing chores, driving etc.).

one of Dr. Insel's big points is the same as the one that I've been making with you five for several years now: that the administrators of the psychiatric treatment for the most ill pts don't know enough about modern psychiatry and don't utilize resources on the right things. As you'll hear if you attend this webinar or obtain his book, research in the past twenty years has demonstrated that as a society we DO know how to adequately treat pts with SMI (serious mental illness) but that we DON"T apply the knowledge and resources despite the fact that we do KNOW WHAT WORKS.

I hope that you five will see this as an invitation to become more familiar with the problems and solutions since it is clear to me that our DHHS is not and it is your job to supervise DHHS and ensure that pts are being adequately treated.

     sincerely,

     Katy

ps. I notice that the timing overlaps a bit with the monthly public BHB meeting; perhaps those of you that planned to attend the BHB meeting can leave early (as I plan to do) so you can also attend this webinar."
