On April 15th 2021 at approximately 8 p.m., three boaters had their vessel overturn near the mouth of the Klamath River. One member of the boating party, Taos Proctor of Klamath, CA, was found deceased. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The two survivors report being pushed approximately 1/4 mile down the beach after entering the water, while the deceased was located approximately 150 yards south of Flint Rock.
Community members, DNSO Search and Rescue, along with Yurok Tribal Police responded to search for the victims, and ultimately recovered the body of Mr. Proctor at approximately 11 p.m.
"The mouth of the Klamath is extremely dangerous and we ask all boaters to exercise caution and always take preventative safety measures, including wearing life jackets and carrying a radio," said Chief O'Rourke, "our hearts go out to the family."
