Jail contraband case keeps getting continued because all defendants need court appointed private attorneys

Setting of preliminary hearing for former correctional deputy Ricardo Aguirre Perez scheduled today was continued to May 4 because none of the defendants can be represented by Public Defenders and they need to find private attorneys for all of them. Just arraignment is leading to continuances.

He has several charges including conspiracy to commit a crime and attempting to bring contraband into the jail.

Mr. Russ Clanton had been originally appointed to represent Perez but Mr. Joe Judge is representing him now.  One co-defendant Caleb Hoffarth is represented by Mr. Zachary Curtis. Two other co-defendants were scheduled to be arraigned today.

Selina Chavez Robles who is only charged with one count; conspiracy to commit a crime will be represented by Mr. Victor Campos. She waived time. Penni Hoffarth was not arraigned because they could not find a private attorney for her so her arraignment was continued to May 4.

5/4: Penni Hoffarth was arraigned with conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of a controlled substance . Ms. Kathleen Bryson was appointed to represent her.

Robles was not present nor was Mr. Campos. A bench warrant for $45,000 will be held until the next court date.

Pre trial is on June 24; preliminary hearing on July 15. Time estimate is 4 hours.

5/24: Preliminary hearing remains set.
