Jeff Tsarnas was scheduled to be sentenced this morning. He was found guilty by a jury of VC 20001 (a) on April 1.
Defense made a motion to continue. Due to a family emergency, Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke was unable to meet with Tsarnas to discuss the sentencing memo from probation. He was not inside the courtroom today. Defense is filing amotion for a new trial.
It was granted for good cause by Judge Timothy Canning. Sentencing was reset to May 24 and rescheduled again to June 10.
Deputy District Attorney Steven Steward was present for the People. Victim Marie Kelly was not present vis Zoom..
