Conflicts, more codefendants create messy and lengthy arraignment for former correctional deputy

I reported on March 24 that Former HCSO Correctional Deputy Ricardo Aguirre Perez would be arraigned on April 6. I also said in that post there should be co-defendants based on the case number.

One co-defendant was also on calendar today for setting of preliminary hearing; Caleb Hoffarth. He is represented by Mr. Zachary Curtis.

There was a whole mess with conflicts of interest with Conflict Counsel and Public Defender offices and so Aguirre needed a court appointed private attorney. Mr. Russ Clanton was appointed.

Confirmation of counsel for Aguirre Perez is scheduled for April 8. Two other co-defendants are set to be arraigned April 30. Setting of preliminary hearing for Hoffarth and Aguirre Perez will be addressed on that date.

Aguirre is charged with PC 182 (a) (1), criminal conspiracy to commit a crime; PC 664/4573 (a) attempt to bring contraband into the jail, with a special allegation that he was armed with a firearm in the commission of the crime, and two counts of PC 30600 (a).

The second time Judge Lawrence Killoran read the charges, he added a Count 5, possession of a controlled substance.
