When people in charge of enforcing the laws do whatever they like, there is no justice

This is a small town. There will be conflict of interests. Judge Kaleb Cockrum and Judge Kelly Neel are very good about disqualifying themselves and declaring any information. Why don't the rest?

Some local Judges are more professional than others.

Judge Cockrum recused himself from Mark Dare's case because he has worked previously with Public Defender Marek Reavis. Mr. Russ Clanton is the one who did an evaluation that has led to Dare's Marsden hearing being heard twice and now a new trial. Why should conflict of interest standards be any different for Judge Wilson?

When Judge Wilson was an attorney, he worked with Mr. Clanton in his law firm. Read my post today on Dare. Judge Christopher Wilson just decided to make his decision in a closed courtroom with no input from the District Attorney.

Judge Gregory Elvine-Kreis takes affront if there is a peremptory challenge to him from the District Attorney or anyone. Judge Wilson gets testy in court if his rulings are challenged. Presiding Judge Joyce Hinrichs decided she could be unbiased in a family law case so the attorney planning to file a disqualifaction decided not to do so.

It would be one thing if this kind of arrogance and disregard was rare but it is business as usual in Humboldt Superior Court and disrespectful to attorneys, the public and the profession.

Visiting Judges who come to Humboldt are shocked. Those in Humboldt who don't like the truth and criticism need to clean up their act. Those of us that are professional and used to a higher standard are stuck here due to the this "Lost Coast" and "Redwood Curtain" attitude and it costs us in many ways.

When you live in a small town, competing with several people for a limited amount of revenue, very few people speak up and challenge injustice , arrogance and blatant violations.

COVID 19 has everyone stressed but my observations are over several years of living in Humboldt and this blog is not for the fainthearted.

When your decisions impact people's lives and their ability to earn a living, when people in this nasty town and state target certain people for simply standing up and speaking up, when people are denied the applications of law and justice, when weak and petty tyrants blacklist certain people, destroy reputations with lies, when people abuse their power; they should be exposed. It is even more egregious when these people get paid with taxpayer dollars.

There are local judges related by marriage to influential locals. Local defense attorneys and friendships in this small town that create conflicts of interest. Just like everything else that is selective in Humboldt, whether it is law enforcement,  business or advertising; justice is selective in Humboldt Superior Court. If you expect the corrupt state of California to oversee egregious behavior on a local level; keep hoping.

Justice in Humboldt and California is like Russian roulette. If you are wealthy or if you ignore the injustice, your chances of survival and your bank account go up.

Humboldt Superior Court Judges and administration do whatever they want with what seems like no oversight and no accountability.

There are now informal preliminary hearings. There seem to be interventions now whenever the powers to be like it with no interventions. There is no direct access to court records for the public and media. The courts and Public Health point fingers at each other. Both need to get over it. Why is the second floor of the courthouse completely closed? Why are certain government offices and office buildings still closed? We are in the orange tier, people are being vaccinated and California is set to reopen on June 15?

The latest idea to address the court backlog is assign jury trials out, four or five or six to one Judge and have them "trail." That fixes nothing except create more paperwork and backlog.

Remote court has been a disaster. COVID 19 is an excuse for lack of transparency from the courts and government.

Jury trials being settled and discussed in closed courtrooms. Several dark days and light calendars this week because several cases settled. None of this is fixing the backlog; it is creating chaos. None of this is preventing COVID 19 because people don't live in a bubble.

Humboldt Superior Court  does not care how people's lives or freedom are affected by mismanagement and ineptitude at the top level. COVID 19 as an excuse to hide problems that pre existed is a joke.

What exactly does the California Judicial get paid for? They send out press releases and do the typical government PR on their site but they have yet to do anything about the numerous issues in California courts, including Humboldt. They are ignoring the rushed jury trials, hearings, plea deals under pressur  and violation of people's due process and rights.

The rest of the local media is useless. At least in the Bay area and rest of California, some media try.  It is time to have some national scrutiny on California and Humboldt. The only thing that gets people's attention is when their lives and bank accounts are affected.  The People creating this mess in the government and courts live off and are getting rich on taxpayer dollars.

The COVID 19 pandemic may have opened the eyes of others but the ineptitude and corruption by the state of California and consequences on people's lives and freedoms have been going on for decades.

Gavin Newsom and his bureaucrats could care less as long as their special intetests remain entrenche and keep them in power.

Newsom just made two Humboldt appointments. With a the posdibility of a recall looming, attention to Humboldt's problems regionally and nationally is not what Newsom wants his opponents to see.
