Defendant in case with hate crime allegation found mentally incompetent to stand trial

Dr. Jennifer Wilson's report for Jessie Aguilar Petersen was received and both the People and defense submitted on the report and findings.

Petersen was found mentally incompetent to stand trial and criminal proceedings were suspended. Besides her 2021 case with the hate crime allegation, she had six other cases on calendar.

Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm is the prosecutor. DA Kimberly Beatty appeared on the case for the People. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is Petersen's attorney.

The alleged victim is Dr. Jason Lee Meriwether.

On March 22, Judge Kaleb Cockrum held Petersen to answer for Count 1 PC 594 (b) (1) felony vandalism and the hate crime special allegation. Judge Cockrum reduced Count 2 PC 422.75, resisting an executive officer to a misdemeanor.

CONREP report for treatment and mental health evaluation for anti psychotic medication is due May 5.

5/4: Criminal proceedings remain suspended. Petersen to be committed to state hospital. Anti psychotic medication to be administered. Confirmation of transport hearing on June 1.

6/1: She is still in custody. At her request, a Marsden hearing was scheduled for June 2.
