Fresno police officer with association to Proud Boys fired

(ABC 30)

Rick Fitzgerald, a Fresno police officer has been fired. This after video footage of Fitzgerald was seen wearing clothing associated with the Proud Boys and him attending the Tower Theatre protests.

On March 14, the department became aware of this information and allegations of his association with the Proud Boys. Within two hours, Fitzgerald was placed on administration leave. After an internal investigation, Fitzgerald was fired him on April 9.

Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama released this statement.

Fitzgerald said he was fired over the phone. He claims no one wanted his side of the story. He does not deny being a part of the Proud Boys. Fitzgerald said after he saw the behavior of the Proud Boys in Sacramento, he left the group and started his own group, Sons of 76. Fresno and his attorney claim he was not provided any documentation and fired without due process. This is according to ABC30 and CBS47, the only two outlets, with statements from Fitzgerald.
