Trial confirmation was scheduled for Samantha Luna this morning. Due to several reasons stated by both the people and the defense, the jury trial scheduled for April 26 was vacated. Dates were reset.
Luna's attorney is Mr. William Panzer. Deputy District Attorney Jessica Acosta is the prosecutor.
Discussions to resolve the case have been occurring. Mr. Panzer had questiond about what is going on with jury trials in Humboldt County.
Mr. Panzer made a motion to continue because his wife is getting her second COVID vaccine on April 28. She is epileptic and he needs to take her to the appointment as well as be around in case there are any side effects.
Ms. Acosta said there maybe a witness conflict and depending on that, she was also considering a motion to continue. She also noted with Luna being out of custody and the current status of trials, the likelihood of this trial proceeding in April was "unlikely."
Trial confirmation is on October 18; jury trial on October 26.
