Probation request and at request of victims' family members, sentencing for Ronald Loureiro continued

Sentencing was scheduled murder suspect Ronald Loureiro on September 9. It was continued to September 18 for two reasons.

Probation is waiting on certain reports to prepare their reports but more so at the request of the victims' families.

Loureiro pleaded guilty to Count 1 for second degree murder and admitting the "nickel prior" which adds an additional five years to his term.

California law adds on a five-year penalty enhancement for anyone convicted of a serious felony, if they already have a prior conviction for a serious felony.

The sentence for second degree murder is 15 years to life. The nickel prior adds an additional five years to his term.

Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm is the prosecutor for this case. Loureiro's attorney is Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps.

In addition to the 2018 homicide case, Loureiro has two cases from 2019 and one from 2017. The 2019 misdemeanor cases were dismissed by the People.

Loureiro's plea resulted in a violation of probation for his 2017 misdemeanor case. Probation was terminated. Judge Wilson had previously said "any time on that case will run concurrently."

Mr. David Nims represents victim Jackie Carter and two minor victims.
