Whether it is courts or other coverage, I am effective, I take the risks. Other local media sees and copies. However, if they  hold the powers to be accountable regarding COVID 19, they can join me in the effort to keep our community safe

Regular readers and followers of my blog as well as others know that for months I have been documenting and calling out the lack of enforcement and selective enforcement regarding COVID 19. I called out Sheriff William Honsal on this blog. I have called out City of Eureka Code Enforcement. City of Eureka Code Enforcement was useless  pre COVID and continues to be an incompetent, inept, petty and unprofessional department.

I have called out the BOS, Sheriff Honsal via email repeatedly regarding COVID 19 and lack of enforcement.  I have written about this  on my blog for months.

I am glad to see some other local media finally step up and question Sheriff Honsal about lack of enforcement regarding COVID 19. Now they need to do the same for the BOS and cities in Humboldt. And not lob soft questions.

So, if it is positive press, you hear back and right away from Sheriff Honsal. If it isn't convenient, he can ignore you or respond via someone else. Or he can spin away  effective news that only I wrote about and not respond to me but give a statement to the Ferndale Enterprise and have another Titus take care of a "good ole local boy" handpicked for his current position.

Whether it is courts or other coverage, I am effective, I take the risks. Other local media sees what's working and then copies. However, if they  hold the powers to be accountable regarding COVID 19, they can join me in the effort to keep our community safe.

As media, we should all be working together to inform, call out and hold those elected or appointed to government positions accountable. They are paid and were entrusted to keep us safe and to protect our community. It should not be my job to consistently cover news and express opinions that other media, their management and advertisers are scared to take on.

City of Eureka Code Enforcement was supposed to handle COVID 19 violations. Regarding tips involving individuals, they do nothing or pass the buck. Not even a warning letter about repeated violations that I called the COVID tip line about and brought to the attention of BOS and Sheriff Honsal. I know others have had similar experiences.

Why was City of Eureka Code Enforcement deputized? So they can further harass small and local businesses while turning a blind eye to blatant COVID 19 violations by individuals? They do regarding other Eureka Code Enforcement violations.

The problem in Humboldt, whether it is COVID 19 or any other violation, is the selective enforcement because of the corruption and the informal, small town connections where laws are unfairly enforced. If you are certain locals or have money, you get a pass. COVID 19 has just exposed the "Humboldt system."

For most people in Humboldt, life is a constant struggle dealing with the Humboldt system and challenges of making a living. There were fires last year, PG & E PSPS, then COVID 19, now more fires. Some of us despite challenges, work har. Now our ability to earn income and savings we managed to put away are being depleted because the Chief Law Enforcement officer, Code Enforcement and elected officials can't do their job or get certain people to follow basic safety during a pandemic.

I finally got action from the Eureka Police Department after repeated documentation on the blog and contacting Chief Steve Watson about COVID 19 violations in my apartment complex and neighborhood. Like everything else, EPD is the only one I feel listens, helps and protects.
