Mark Dare worked for a local TV station and BiCoastal media before he took a job in Utah

When Jane Doe #2 walked into the room today to testify,  it was more than her looks that were different.

The last time I saw her was at the preliminary hearing. She is 21 now.  Even in three years, the change is noticeable. She was strong at the preliminary hearing. Jane Doe #2 is stronger now and a survivor. Despite her mother's betrayal and abandonement and her horrific ordeal, Jane Doe #2 is a productive member of society and has not let this setback define her.

As I noted in my previous post, the contrast today with the photo of the girls when they were just kids, will be very effective.

Windy and Mark Dare worked at the same TV station. After her divorce, Windy dated and then married Mark Dare. He is Jane Doe #2 and Jane Doe #1's stepfather.

Windy Dare told Jane Doe #2 that her younger brother, Mattaniah, would be taken away so she changed what she originally told CWS about Msrk Dare physically abusing her sister. Mattaniah is Windy and Mark Dare's child. Dare's older son, Paul, lived with the Dares and Jane Does for a while.

Jane Doe #2's sexual abuse began when she was "in  second grade; 8 or 9 years old."

In the beginning of her testimony, Jane Doe #2 referred to "Mark and Windy", then later said "my mom."

"There were multiple nights where I would wake up to being touched and stimulated.."

Jane #2 "believes" the sexual abuse ended when she was in "4th or 5th grade". Her younger brother had been born.

"My mom was pregnant when he was doing it," said Jane Doe #2.

The molestation happened, "most nights but not every night at the same time. There is a time he crawled up on the bed and was on my right side. He answered his phone." Mark Dare was on call. In this instance, the touching ended when he answered his phone.

The touching in bed was less frequent. Most of the time he was standing by her bed. She slept in the top bunk. Her sister in the bottom bunk. They were sleeling so no lights except for the illumination from her alarm clock. She would wake up to Mark Dare touching her. When he was done, it was 11 or 11:30.

"One time, he, you know, did his thing and said something about calming me down."

The incident where he answered his phone, Mark Dare "started rubbing my back, then touching my butt, then went underneath my clothes, touched my breasts, then touched the clitoral part. He did not touch my vagina."

Local attorney Kathleen Bryson and her daughter Kaitlyn, a friend of Jane Doe #2 will testify during the trial. Jane Doe #2 reached out to get help and was referred to another lawyer by Kathleen Bryson.

With tears, Jane Doe #2 testified how this has affected her relationships with men, her life. She said Mark Dare was supposed to show her what a father should be like.

Windy Dare was sexually abused by her brother. She shared this with Jane Doe #1. Windy Dare is still close to her brother.Windy Dare showed no emotion regarding her own molestation.

Jane Doe #2 has been a very credible witness. She has been respectful to Public Defender Marek Reavis. He has not been able to impeach her despite grilling her for hours, asking questions several different ways to confuse her.

Contrary to the assertion in the defense opening statement, Jane Doe #2's testimony was consistent with her testimony today and what she said at the preliminary hearing.

Mr. Reavis described Windy Dare as religious. Jane Doe said she was not until she met Mark Dare. Jane Doe added, " I wouldn't call her religious. She goes to church."

The defense theory that this is some kind of retaliation was a bust. Jane Doe #2 was very truthful. During redirect, Deputy District Attorney asked Jane Doe #2 if Dare was molesting her while giving sermons at church. Jane Doe #2 could have said a definitive yes. She did not. Jane Doe #2 said she could not remember. Dare is an elder at the 7th Day Adventist Church. Jane Doe #2, Jane Doe #1 and Mattaniah were all dedicated at the same time.
