Convicted murderer Ronald Loureiro sentenced 20 years to life in prison
Sentencing for murder suspect Ronald Loureiro took place this morning. Loureiro was sentenced to a total term of 20 years to life.
Loureiro pleaded guilty to Count 1 for second degree murder and admitting the "nickel prior" which adds an additional five years to his term.
California law adds on a five-year penalty enhancement for anyone convicted of a serious felony, if they already have a prior conviction for a serious felony.
The sentence for second degree murder is 15 years to life. The nickel prior adds an additional five years to his term.
Judge Christopher Wilson sentenced Loureiro to 15 years to life for Count 1 and an additional five years for the special allegation. Loureiro is ineligible for probation. He has a total of 989 days of custody credits.
Deputy District Attorney Shelly Small is the prosecutor for this case. Loureiro's attorney is Deputy Conflict Counsel Owen Tipps.
In addition to the 2018 homicide case, Loureiro has two cases from 2019 and one from 2017. The 2019 misdemeanor cases were dismissed by the People.
Loureiro's plea resulted in a violation of probation for his 2017 misdemeanor case. Probation was terminated. Judge Wilson had previously said "any time on that case will run concurrently."
Mr. David Nims represents victim Jackie Carter and two minor victims.
