Evacuees will undergo a COVID-19 screening prior to being admitted to the Regional Evacuation Shelter

As wildfires continue to burn across Northern California, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services in coordination with the American Red Cross-Gold Country Region today established a Northern California Regional Evacuation Shelter for wildfire evacuees.

The Regional Evacuation Shelter is located at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds, 1250 5th St, Ferndale, CA 95536. At this site, wildfire evacuees will be able to access temporary indoor overnight shelter accommodations, meals, water and fire information. The Regional Evacuation Shelter is also equipped to board livestock and small pets displaced due to wildfire evacuations.

Wildfire evacuees currently camping or using RV parking spaces at the Shelter are encouraged to continue doing so to allow for increased social distancing. Additional camping space is available for wildfire evacuees. Persons choosing to seek shelter via camping should bring their own camping equipment.

Evacuees will undergo a COVID-19 screening prior to being admitted to the Regional Evacuation Shelter. Symptomatic persons or COVID-19 positive evacuees will be connected with Humboldt County Public Health and alternative accommodations will be arranged.
