Ray Christie paid $9,975 for a pig raised by the Honsal family and more to support the kids and FFA

A few people called me about this and I decided to call Ray Christie directly. He confirmed and spoke with me. Christie has always answered my call and questions, no matter what I ask him.

This weekend at the Humboldt County Livestock Auction, Christie bought "two lambs and two hogs." One of those was this pig raised by Jack Honsal and Christie's bid was for $9,975.

Right after he sealed the deal, a friend of Christie's texted Sheriff William Honsal saying, "Jack did well."

Sheriff Honsal texted back, "We are so blessed."

Christie told me that usually a guy, whose last name is Flier, lives in Loleta by "the potato sheds" buys the pigs. This year, Christie outbid him.

Christie said he was looking at the catalog. "Billy has done such a good job in this area. His kid is a senior, in high school. He might want to follow in his dad's footsteps so I thought I would support his education."

"All these big businesses wait to buy the pigs, the sheep, the Grand Champion turkey, the Grand Champion rabbit to get publicity."

"I usually buy the dairy heifers. The kids do a great job with the animals. I never got no recognition from the FFA kids. These kids are now grown adults. None of them made statements about me helping out all these years."

"I am not looking for sympathy.  I just don't want what happened to me to happen to someone else.
I have been the garbage collector buying all these unwanted and neglected animals in the community to try and restore them back to health." Christie is not talking about the animals at the FFA being neglected but other animals that he also purchases.

"Normally, you can give the animals back. These kids raise them; they are their pets. I wanted to give them back but I could not this year due to the COVID restrictions."
