Seng Yang discussed masturbation and had Jane Doe help him download Hentai porn

During cross examination, Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield asked Eureka Police Department Ron Harpham if Jane Doe had any injuries on January 5, 2018. Det. Harpham said no.

Mr. Brownfield asked if during his investigation, he found out about any injuries on Jane Doe caused by Yang or if there were any hospital reports. Det. Harpham said no.

Mr. Brownfield:  "Were any of the five videos duplicated?"

"Not that I can tell," said Det. Harpham.

Jane Doe had 52,000 messages so Det. Harphan used search filters such as people's names or words such as rape to filter what messages he reviewed. Det. Harpham reviewed all messages from the Jimmy Yung account to the Jane Doe account.

Mr. Brownfield: "Were there any messages from Jane Doe's account to Mr. Yang's account with Jane Doe wanting to have sex with Mr. Yang?

"There was just one series of messages in July." From the messages, Det. Harpham said it was im July 2017 and they seemed to be at Trinity Pines.

Mr. Brownfield: "Jane Doe asked Mr. Yang to purchase a sex toy for her?"

"I don't recall but I do recall a sex toy being brought up," said Det. Harpham.

During redirect examination by Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads, Det. Harpham  said Yang talked about Hentai porn and about masturbation with Jane Doe.

Det. Harpham recalled that Jane Doe said that she doesn't view that sort of stuff and that at Yang's request, she told him how to download Hentai porn for "self pleasure."

During recross, Det. Harpham said that he noticed while reviewing Yang's messages that when Yang was speaking with other Hmong males, who were not family members, that he spoke primarily in Hmong.

Mr. Brownfield: "When you spoke to Mr. Yang, did you inquire if English was his primary language?"

"I did not," said Det. Harpham.

If you have been following this case regularly on my blog from the beginning, you know Yang can speak English; in fact it was noted on the record by a Visiting Judge when Yang spoke up in court.

The jurors saw the video and Yang disrupt court themselves and he spoke and understood English. They saw him communicating with Mr. Brownfield without the assistance of two Hmong court interpreters. These interpreters are from out of the area and Yang is not paying for the cost incurred. They have to be present at every hearing.

The People rested their case on Wednesday, May 29 after EPD Sr. Detective Ron Harpham's testimony.

Judge John Feeney told the jury , "We are close to all the evidence that will be provided in this case." He excused the jurors and said that on Thursday, jury instructions would be finalized.

There was no mention of the defense case. Jurors were asked to return Friday morning.
