Individual questioning of jurors concluded last week.
Today, a 402 hearing was held in the Seng Yang case with Eureka Police Senior Detective Ron Harpham this morning. Det. Harpham testified for an hour before lunch and he was back this afternoon. This is in a closed courtroom.
There is video evidence in this case. One of the videos is Yang's interview at the Eureka Police Department. A screenshot was on the monitor when I was in Courtroom 5 covering another case this afternoon.
The following is from my previous coverage of the case:
Yang did not deny having sex with his own daughter, making video tapes to sell, for $200-400. He had sex with her while her mother was in the same room, he stopped having sex with Jane Doe after his wife (her mother) walked in and caught him on top of Jane Doe, he had just finished having sex with Jane Doe and his 11 year old child came into the room as he was getting dressed. Text messages, videos, facebook messages and child porn of daddy daughter sex, themes of daddy daughter sex while mom was asleep on the bed and themes of violence obtaining sex were found on electronic devices belonging to Yang.
Yang had the opportunity after the preliminary hearing to resolve the case. He refused the DA's offer of 39 years.
