BB gun recovered off campus at EHS student's residence
On May 9, 2019 at approximately 2:09 pm, officers of the Eureka Police Department responded to the Eureka High School concerning a possible firearm being on campus.
Upon the officer’s arrival, school staff had already identified and located the possibly involved students. None of the students were in possession of a weapon and no weapon(s) were located in any storage areas that they have access. All parties were interviewed and parents were contacted. At that time, no information that would sustain that a weapon had actually been brought on campus was discovered.
During the incident Eureka City Schools did initiate their auto-call system advising parents of the information available at the time. Officers remained on campus until confident that no safety concerns for students, staff, and the public existed.
On May 10, 2019, based on information obtained throughout the day by school officials, a possible location for the weapon was identified. Eureka Police Department staff responded to the school and followed up on the new information. Ultimately, a BB gun was recovered at a student’s residence off campus.
This is an ongoing investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.
