$200,000 damage for onr structure fire; $75,000 for another

At about 3:12pm on Tuesday, May 28th, Humboldt Bay Fire was conducting a Trench Rescue training at the Humboldt Community Services District when crews were dispatched to a home on fire in the Lazy J Trailer Park on the 3800 block of Jacobs Avenue. Upon arrival, it appeared that the fire started in one trailer and had spread to a neighboring trailer before crews arrived.

Three Fire Engines, One Ladder Truck, One Command Staff, and One Public Information Officer responded to the scene and did everything they could to protect lives and property.

Although all residents of the trailers made it out safely, we are saddened to report that 3 pet cats were killed in the fire.  Five residents are displaced as a result of the fire, including a family of four. Humboldt Bay Fire has partnered with the Red Cross to ensure the residents receive alternate housing and accommodations.  Damages are estimated to be about $100,000 per home, for a total of $200,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

Just 20 minutes after being called out to the fire on Jacobs Avenue, at about 3:32pm, Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to a second structure fire on the 110 block of Henderson Street.

Humboldt Bay Fire was aided by Arcata Fire District who sent two Fire Engines to scene, along with one Fire Engine and one Command Staff from Humboldt Bay. Once cleared from the Jacobs Avenue Fire, two additional Humboldt Bay Fire Engines, One Ladder Truck, and One Public Information Officer responded to the scene as well. 

The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, there were no injuries, and the cause is under investigation.  At this time, damages are estimated at $75,000.

Emergencies cannot be planned, but we can plan how we are going to respond to them, and our mutual aid agreements allow us to respond to several multi-alarm calls at once.
