Sonoma couple ordered to pay $586,000 for uprooting a 180 year old tree on protected property

(Sonoma Land Trust)
Sonoma Superior Court Judge Patrick Broderick ordered Peter and Toni Thompson couple to pay  $586,000 for uprooting a 180-year-old oak tree that caused more damage to other trees and vegetation protected under a conservation easement.

The damage was discovered in 2014 after a tip from a concerned neighbor.  The couple removed the 180-year-old heritage oak tree to move it to another home they built adjacent to the property.
