"Factually incorrect" article from the Times Standard on the Visitors Bureau and Board of Supervisors?
"Should you read today’s Times-Standard article about the Bureau. It’s factually incorrect."
https://www.times-standard.com/2019/05/28/visitors-bureau-gets-renewed-chance-to-handle-humboldt-county-tourism/
"The county board of supervisors voted unanimously to renew the Bureau’s contract for two years, and requested an update per discussions with county staff in three to six months. That’s it."
"The six-month subject to renewal item was one of several options presented by the county staff. However, the supervisors decided on the two-year plan, a real vote of confidence in our hard work in promoting county tourism and recognition of the changes we are in the process of making to be more effective in the future. "
This is from Richard Stenger. He cced Shomik Mukherjee on the email.
I did not cover the meeting, I briefly observed the discussion among County staff and the Supervosors. One interesting onservation from Fifth District Supervisor Steve Madrone was that only Eureka was contributing and giving input into County tourism. He said Arcata, McKinleyville and others should be afforded the same opportunity.
I have reached out to Supervisors Rex Bohn and Mike Wilson and County PIO Sean Quincey about Stenger's statement. Supervisor Bohn responded that Stenger's statement was a 100% accurate.
