Jane Doe's older sister also had a CAST interview

CWS Social Worker and Supervisor Jed Mefford testified this morning about Jane Doe's CAST interview which took place on January 5, 2018. This is the same day she went to the Eureka Police Department with allegations about her father, Seng Yang.

Mefford said that Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads, DA Investigator Kyla Baxley, EPD Sr. Det. Ron Harpham and CWS Social Worker Rachel Fuentes observed the interview. It was two hours long.

Mefford described Jane Doe's demeanor as stoic. He told Ms. Eads "at times Jane Doe was overwhelmed and confused."

During cross examination by Deputy Public Defender Luke Brownfield, Mefford said a CAST interview was also conducted with Jane Doe's older sister. Mefford said there was a brief discussion with the CAST team after Jane Doe's interview.

"Was there a discussion about a SART exam?," Mr. Brownfield asked Mefford.

Mefford said  "I don't recall if a SART exam was done after the CAST interview."

During the morning break, Juror #3 was excused because of a family emergency. A female alternate juror took her place. The make up of the jury remains the same; six men and six women.
