Former Humboldt DA passed away this week

 


Former Humboldt Deputy District Attorney Christa McKimmy passed away on February 9. A memorial service is being held for her in Michigan on February 13.

Among the local cases she prosecuted was a conviction for land use violations by local attorney Ken Bareilles. She also prosecuted Back in Action owner Darrell Slape who was found guilty of sexual penetration and sexual battery of Jane Doe 1.

The following information is from her obituary. 

Christa Kae McKimmy, age 57, of Ann Arbor, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021. She was born June 11, 1963 in Detroit to Jack and Janice (Birmingham) McKimmy. Christa married Terry Raymond on July 12, 2016 and he survives.

Christa graduated from Community High School and went on to receive her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. She graduated with her Juris Doctor from Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Christa’s work as a lawyer led her to employment as a deputy district attorney in Humboldt County, California. She had a great sense of adventure and had traveled the globe in her retirement. Christa was also an extremely passionate environmentalist and lover of animals volunteering her time at an Ann Arbor animal rescue.

In addition to her husband, Christa is survived by two daughters, Sydney (Joel) Hinton of Osseo and Rachel McKimmy of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Evy and Ryan Hinton; her father, Jack McKimmy of Lincoln, Nebraska and sister, Cathy McKimmy of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Christa was preceded in death by her mother, Janice Birmingham-McKimmy.
