Convicted sex offenders know they have the upper hand when defense and Humboldt Judges make light of repeated arrests and parole violations

Convicted sex offender had a parole revocation hearing scheduled this morning with four other cases. It was continued to February 22 on the "court's own motion" by Judge Kaleb Cockrum. Knopf had arraignment for another parole violation this afternoon.

Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees cited Knopf's multiple arrests and multiple parole violations. The dates in court covered November and December 2020, January and February 2021. I have covered Knopf's multiple arrests and violations. Knopf has served time in the local jail. Once on the street, he told me he served time in prison and had no remorse for his crime.

Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo had told Judge Cockrum and Mr. Rees before the case, "If there is an offer other than the worst case scenario, he will take it."

Mr. Rees said "the maximum and minimum are the same mandatory, 180."

Judge Cockrum said, "We are in conversation with parole to figure it out."

Mr. Russo spoke with Knopf and there was no resolution. He said the parole violations were "failures to appear" and "missed opportunities."

Mr. Rees said the People intend to submit on the petitions. Mr. Russo will cross examine the parole officer.

Judge Cockrum said, "He will not receive consecutive sentences on this."
