Manny Machado, County public information specialist, Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass responded to me right after the first Tim Phillis post to acknowledge my email. County Clerk, Recorder and Registrar of voters Kelly Sanders sent me a response.
"Your email was forwarded to me, and I am writing to respond to the PRA request submitted to the Clerk/Recorder’s office," said Ms. Sanders.
"The records Mr. Phillis is requesting are official records and are therefore not public records as defined by Government Code Section 6252(e). The records requested are maintained by a public agency, but do not relate to the conduct of the public’s business," said Ms. Sanders.
"The documents requested are available for purchase and can be obtained in the following ways:
Web - Purchase, download, and print the document using a credit card for an immediate copy through the Self-Service Web. (documents from 04/09/1999 to present)
Mail - Request a copy by mail by providing the specific recorder’s serial number or book and page of the document you would like a copy, your return address, and a check or money order made payable to Humboldt County Recorder. The fee for official record copies is $2 for the first page and $1 each additional page. There is an additional $2 fee for certification, if requested. The address for ordering copies is Humboldt County Recorder’s Office, 825 5th Street 5th floor, Eureka Ca 95501.
In-Person - Contact the Clerk Recorder directly at (707)445-7593 Ext. 3, to schedule an in- person appointment to come into the office to perform a search of the record and/or order copies in-person."
I don't know how much clearer the county could have made their response. Even though Tim Phillis did not include the County's exact response, it is clear from what he sent in his email to me and this response from Ms. Sanders that he was given proper information regarding his PRA request.
Despite a very busy morning, I manage to get a response within a few hours. He also cced LOCO. What did they do? On a daily basis, their live and original output is dismal compared to other local news sources. They have access to all the Lost Coast Communications resources and money. After my posts, let's see if LOCO covers this and how they report on this inquiry.
A lot of time was wasted this morning by me, the County in getting information that was already provided to Tim Phillis.
