Still cuffed, Chong Her clasped his hands together in gratitude twice right after Judge Timothy Canning's ruling.
Just a few minutes ago, Jane Doe was excused. Neither the People or the defense presented any additional evidence or witnesses. Judge Canning said he did not need to hear any closing arguments.
Citing the complete lack of credibility of Jane Doe, Judge Timothy Canning dismissed the charges against Her. Judge Canning ordered Her released from custody.
Judge Canning said Her faced prison time based on the serious charges that arose from Jane Doe making allegations because she was angry.
After Jane Doe admitted the one untrue statement on both direct and cross examination; it just went downhill.
Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian skillfully exposed Jane Doe's motivation. Mr. Orbelian is very respectful. He takes evidence gathered in investigation and without raising his voice or ever disparaging the alleged victim makes his case by raising facts and asking questions. He is definitely an asset to the Public Defender's office.
Deputy District Attorney Candace Myers was the prosecutor.
