Defense continuing intervention hoping for a plea in Ryder Stapp case?

Intervention was scheduled for for vehicular manslaughter and DUI suspect Ryder Stapp on January 15  It was continued to January 22. Preliminary hearing is scheduled as a special set on January 31. It is a full day estimate.

This is the second intervention and third continuance requested by the defense.

According to sources in the community, the Stapps are aware that Ryder will do time and are hoping to negotiate a plea. Stapp is represented by Mr. Neal Sanders.

The preliminary hearing was supposed to be assigned to Judge Kaleb Cockrum but Judge Timothy Canning scheduled it for his courtroom, "for now." Judge Canning refused to grant the People's bail because of Ryder Stapp's "family ties."

Victims are Robert Beland and Elizabeth Martin.
