No drugs detected in Fred Loftus' blood, further dent in defense witness credibility

The People planned to call three witnesses on January 29 in the David Kobak trial. He is charged with the murder of his friend, Fred Loftus.

Bill Posey of Central Valley Toxicology testified that no drugs were detected in Loftus' blood. Loftus' blood alcohol was 0.17. One of the drugs is prescribed for nerve pain as well as depression or anxiety.

EPD Detective Ron Harpham was recalled. Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm in her questioning of Robert Rappe, Kobak's friend and Cheri Keel, Kobak's girlfriend already raised doubts about their testimony and with Det. Harpham's testimony today made a further dent in their credibility. Both also knew and did not like Loftus.

Jury saw photos which included the post it notes found in Kobak's apartment. Det. Harpham testified none of the post it notes were about daily tasks. Via Loftus' texts and phone messages,Det. Harpham learned he had an injury to his hand.

DA Administrative Analyst Dave Walker testified that on January 25, 2020 it took him 30 minutes to walk from Ernie's to 1317 7th street which is the apartment complex where Kobak lived. It took him 7 minutes from the apartment complex to walk to Ernie's.

People rest. Closing jury arguments were supposed to start at 2 p.m. today. They were rescheduled to 9:45 on January 30.
