Information regarding former HCSO deputy Mike Hass to be released to both parties in Kailan Meserve writ of habeas corpus

Case Management conference was scheduled this morning for convicted rapist Kailan Meserve's writ of habeas corpus.

Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer, Humboldt Superior Court attorney Bryan Daley and Deputy County Counsel Natalie Duke were present in court today. Meserve's attorney was present via court call.

At a previous hearing, Mr. Daley told Judge Wilson, "We are caught between Pitchess statutes and Bradley obligations."

At that hearing, Judge Christopher Wilson granted a motion to seal a record filed. He denied Kailan Meserve's attorney's request for oral depositions. At another previous hearing, Judge Wilson mentioned a memo Sgt. Diana Freese had but doesnt now. It involves a citizen complaint and there will be an in camera hearing conducted about that memo.

On November 22, that in camera hearing was held in the Judge's chambers to determine if information regarding former HCSO Deputy Mike Haas' work on the Meserve case will be disclosed to the People and Meserve.

Judge Wilson ruled while information from that hearing will be released to both parties, in order to protect Haas' confidentiality, Ms. Duke will view the entire information first to file any objections.
