Yesterday, the preliminary hearing for first degree burglary with an alleged male victim was continued by defense to 10/12. The carjacking and assault case with Christina Higgins as the victim was dismissed by the People.
This is what I wrote in my last post. "People who read my blog regularly or pay attention to the local bookings are familiar with Higgins. I have covered Higgins since 2014."
"Higgins has poor choice in men and besides Egger has dated other Humboldt County criminals. I have seen her with different men and when I first covered her, she dumped one guy after she got released and showed up with another guy to rub it in his face."
"None of this minimizes Egger's alleged behavior but Humboldt courts are filled with drama and criminals dating each other or assaulting each other. I have covered hundreds of cases involving other domestic violence victims; this case won't be easy to prodecute given Higgins' lack of credibility and her own criminal history."
10/12: Preliminary hearing in case with first degree burglary male victim continued to 12/8 because Egger is ill.
12/8: Preliminary continued again by defense. Setting of preliminary scheduled for 1/17/23.
1/17/23: Preliminary scheduled for 3/1.
3/1: Preliminary hearing continued to 3/16 by defense because assigned Deputy Public Defender is ill.
3/16: Egger resolved his burglary case before his preliminary hearing by entering an open plea. Sentencing is on 4/13. Deputy District Attorney Wayne Phillips' motion to remand Egger into custody was denied. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is Egger's attorney.
4/13: Failed to appear for sentencing, no bail bench warrant issued.
4/21: Booked into jail on his bench warrant.
5/1: Higgins was in court today for Egger's sentencing. Judge Kaleb Cockrum told Egger he was not placed on probation. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison. Restitution in the amount of $8,100.99 for the male victim as well as other fines and fees.
