Jane Doe, her mother and the public are safe thanks to Judge Cockrum's ruling regarding alleged molestor's bail status

 


Alleged molestor August William J Real III  had his preliminary hearing on 9/7 prelim and was held to answer to Count 1 and 4. Real was not held to answer to Count 2 and 3.

There was an OR/bail today on September 12. After hearing arguments from Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer and Deputy Public Defender Casey Russo, Judge Kaleb Cockrum denied bail and gave a lengthy explaination addressing Humphrey and other defense requests.

Judge Cockrum went into a lengthy explaination about why he declined torelease Real or change the no bail status. Danger to Jane Doe, her family and the public was reiterated by Judge Cockrum several times. He said Real was the victim's stepfather and abused his power and authority. Judge Cockrum said ankle monitoring was insufficient and the "County Commissioners" despite repeated requests had not initiated a program to monitor defendants such as Real.

Arraignment on information is on 9/21.





9/21:  Real was arraigned on information.Trial confirmation is on 11/2; jury trial on 11/14.

11/16: Dates were rescheduled with trial confirmation on 1/3/23; jury trial on 1/9/23.




11/2: Defense oral motion to continue granted.  People submit and waive written notice.11/14 date vacated. Resetting of jury trial on 11/16.
