Rex claims he hasn't seen the Bongio video and whines about being called names

Fifth District Supervisor Steve Madrone  summarized the agenda item he bought forth for discussion today in a calm, respectful, articulate manner. In contrast, First District Supervisor Rex Bohn whined, threw a childish tantrum because people who pay his overinflated salary had the audacity to call out his friend and fellow racist about disgraceful behavior documented on video.

"Just to be clear this item is not about the Schneider project," said Supervisor Madrone "but the conduct" of Humboldt Planning Commission and Chair Alan Bongio. Supervisor Madrone said "a lot of correspondence" had been received "about the Chair's behavior, derogatory and racist remarks."

"If the Supervisors don't embrace values, then these are just rules," said Supervisor Madrone.

Supervisor Madrone took responsibility, again, and brought up his inappropriate use of a word during a Board of Supervisors meeting last May. I reported on it first and as usual, other local media only followed up after my post because they could not ignore the obvious.

Supervisor Madrone brought up former Commisioner Kevin McKenny resigning after he was cited for violating state and federal environmental laws. "After that, he did not violate any laws," said Supervisor Madrone.

The agenda item on Code of Conduct, Diversity and Inclusion training and potential censure of Humboldt Planning Commissioner Alan Bongio started at 2:04 this afternoon. I watched it until 2:31 but after Rex's whining, I decided I had wasted enough time.

Rex can dish it out but he can't take it.

"I have not seen the video but I heard a lot about it," "Rex 😆

"I have been called every name in the book."

Rex so has every other public figure. Deal with it.

Rex, you don't have anyone towering over you while you speak right now, do you? If you can't handle being called names, I suggest you retire from public life.

"I guess we are born at the hip with our appointments," Rex Bohn.

Well Rex, anyone else on the Board you know makes tamale jokes at events? It was your boy Bongio that made racist and derogatory remarks about the original inhabitants of Humboldt.

"Do we throw it all out and disrespect what he has done in the last 10 years" Rex at 2:39 about Bongio.

I have been around the company you keep from Storme Winterr to many others. So stop making Bongio's remarks an exception. He just slipped up and said what many say in private. What has Bongio done in the last 10 years that has just benefitted the community without something in it for himself, you and his buddies? There are several, decent, hardworking locals and businesses who have done more for the community without wanting any recognition than your blowhard friends, Rex.

Rex's action at the end of the meeting is meaningless given all his whining and complaining. Rex should have brought forth this motion right after Bongio put his foot in his mouth.

First District Supervisor Rex Bohn and Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell came prepared and their tool,CAO Elisha Hayes delivered. The Diversity team was present for the smoke and mirror show.

Rex arranged diversity training for Bongio over the weekend in response to the backlash. Actions speak louder than words,  faux trainings. Rex fought any action against Bongio until the last minute.

Rex making the motion to censure Bongio and request he step down is not something I buy. Supervisor Madrone and Third District Supervisor Mike Wilson came across as genuine.

Virginia did what she did because if she wants any future in California politics or public life, you don't piss of the Tribes. Rex and Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell voted for the motion out of political pressure.  I don't buy their act. Had the formal complaint from the Wiyot Tribe not been filed, would the result have been different?

Rex and Bushnell are not going to be in the majority anymore soon. Let's see how many of his cronies and sychophants stand by him.

A letter to the local tribes is meaningless when you have an all white Board of Supervisors, all white County Department heads and almost all white local media. Diversity trainings are a bandaid. Real diversity is having qualified people from all walks of life reflected in all positions of your community.

Anyone who does business and associates with unapolegetic, arrogant racists shows their lack of character. Bongio and Rex are still friends. Rex's comment about cancel culture is a pathetic defense tactic and he continues to be a clueless boor. It wasn't enough he already embarassed Humboldt on national TV once.
