Was there a dead body in the slough and moved without notifying tribes and was Figas Construction involved?

All morning my phone has been going off and I have received information from five unrelated sources.

At least two people who called me, I have known for years, and are very credible.  Both prefaced with "this maybe a rumor. " However, if this is true, then the people who called me said there needs to be an investigation about alleged state, federal laws and Coastal Commission violations.

There are a few things that every source told me me and there are two differences about the location and who moved the body. The one consistency from everyone is Figas Construction.

One source brought up that frequent public commenter Kent Sawatzky knows something. Kent tends to shoot his mouth off a lot and isn't answering his phone.

Lost Coast Outpost has published this disclosure several times, including today. Blue Lake Rancheria is a minority owner of the Outpost’s parent company, Lost Coast Communications, Inc. Bear River Casino advertises with certain other local media. People who called me wondered why none of the other local media had published anything.

Only one source said this is a current project on County land. That source said Figas Construction was working on the land and a "Native American grave was uncovered." This source said that Bear River Rancheria and the Wiyot tribes "are at odds" and Bear River is planning to sue.

All my other sources said that a dead body was found in the slough area owned by the City of Eureka" sometime in the last two to three weeks and that no one notified the Humboldt County Coroner.

One source claimed Bob Figas notified Blue Lake Rancheria and they went and collected the body. Another source claimed the Wiyot tribe moved the skeleton without notifying or following proper protocols. Bear River Rancheria is pissed.

I reached out to the City of Eureka and HCSO first. In the past, local tribal administration does not respond.

If I need to reach out to them and Figas Construction after initial inquiry, I will. I also need more information so if anyone has any knowledge, reach out to me.

HCSO PIO Samantha Karges told me, "I don’t see anything in our system within that time frame."

Eureka City Manager Miles Slattery responded, "I am not aware of a body found, and therefore wouldn’t know about any coroner notification. Sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance."
