Bronson Lewis, Jr and his co-defendant Daniel Armendariz both just entered guilty pleas in their 2020 homicide case a couple of minutes ago. This is before the jury trial. Sentencing is on October 10.
Deputy District Attorney Trent Timm is the prosecutor. Mr. Russ Clanton is Lewis' attorney. Ms. Jennifer Dixon is Armendariz's attorney. This stipulated plea was a"package deal."
Lewis pleaded guilty to first degree murder for a 25 years to life prison sentence. Judge Kaleb Cockrum explained to Lewis this is a serious, violent strike offense and he is ineligible for good time credits. Rest of charges were dismissed by the People. Lewis' bail status was changed to cannot post bail.
In addition to the homicide case, Lewis also had a 2021 case in which he is charged with PC 4502 possession of a weapon while in custody. Lewis' co-defendant in that case is Alexander Lamebear. This case was dismissed by the People. Lewis was ordered released on this case.
Armendariz pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter which is the lesser charge of second degree murder. Despite pleading to a lesser charhe, Mr Timm negotiated that Armendariz will serve the aggravated term of 11 years for that crime. Armendariz also admitted the special allegation of PC 12022.5 personal use of a firearm for an additional four years to be served consecutivel. His total prison sentence is 15 years. Armendariz also waived approximately two years of custody credits which are time spent in jail until today. Count 2 was dismissed by the People. Armendariz's bail status was changed to cannot post bail.
I don't know if the lady next to me was a family member of the victim Julius Tripp or related to Lewis but she sobbed when his charge and agreed sentenced was read by Judge Cockrum.
