Preliminary hearing was scheduled for Christina Higgins this morning. It was rescheduled for October 21. On July 1, she was put on supervised release and is out of custody.
She was not present. Judge Christopher Wilson her attorney to appear on a 977 waiver of personal appearance today but Higgins was court ordered to be present at the next date.
Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian declared a conflict. Mr. Joe Judge was appointed to represent Higgins.
In the case resulting in her most recent arrest, Higgins is charged with one count of PC 273 (a) (a), child abuse/endangerment with great bodily injury.
The People allege Higgins left her year and half old baby boy alone in the residence. There were waffles in the oven. There was a fire. A neighbor who heard the smoke detector going off for 15 to 20 minutes, entered the apartment and rescued the child.
