COVID, Humboldt courts and jail is hell

Preliminary hearing for molestor Jorge Alcazar Vasquez was scheduled for May 24. It was rescheduled for July 21.

Deputy Public Defender David Celli made an oral motion to continue. He told Judge John Feeney that he had been "unable to speak to his client with an interpreter due to the circumstances in the jail."

Last week, Mr. Celli received a two and a half hour interview that Arcata Police Department Sgt. Chris Ortega conducted with Vasquez.

Deputy District Attorney Whitney Timm appeared on the case for Deputy DA Carolyn Schaffer. She "submitted for good cause." The motion was granted.

Deputy Public Defender David Celli is Vasquez's attorney. Deputy District Attorney Carolyn Schaffer is the prosecutor for the case.

If you read my blog regularly, then the title of this post needs no explaination. If you don't, COVID + government + courts + arrogance + corruption + Humboldt = hell.

7/21: Mr. Celli made an oral motion to continue the preliminary hearing. The reason was further investigation and meeting with his client with an interpreter. Deputy DA Roger Rees appeared for Ms. Schaffer. The motion was granted because there was no objection by the People.
