Stabbing incident in Old Town? "Looks like at the Eureka Rescue Mission"

I  followed up with EPD Crime Analyst and PIO Brittany Powell. The incident was not a stabbing which is what it seemed to some people initially passing by but there was an incident and it involved a knife.

"There was not a stabbing," said Ms. Powell. "Just after 3:50 p.m., officers with Eureka Police Department responded to the 100 block of 2nd street for the report of a male brandishing a knife and refusing to leave the Mission.  The caller reported the male charged staff with the knife.  Officers arrived on scene and the male was not compliant and resisted.  A taser was deployed.  Officers were ultimately able to get the man detained and with the assistance of Humboldt Bay Fire and City Ambulance he was transferred to the hospital.  The incident is under investigation and unknown at this point if it will be handled criminally or is mental health related."

"Possible stabbing  incident. Looks like at the Eureka Rescue mission. 8 cop cars. Massive presence. He's being loaded into ambulance. Blood around mid section," according to Anthony Mantova. He later updated his original tip saying someone with a closer look said, "the police used a taser on a man holding a knife."

I also reached out to Bryan Hall at the Eureka Rescue Mission. Nothing new to add from him.
