Hey Madrone, Oriental came out of your mouth today

The discussion today during the Board of Supervisors meeting regarding County considerations after the proposed June 15 reopening was, for the most part, as I expected. The foot in the mouth from clueless Fifth District Supervisor Steve Madrone was not a surprise to me but let's see how many liberal and woke locals, including his supporters excuse it.

Oriental is an outdated term and politically incorrect. In 2016, President Obama signed a bill striking the term from federal law. Opinions vary but most do consider it an offensive, insulting and racist term. The use today from an entitled, liberal hippie Supervisor in the current anti Asian climate is deplorable.

I bet the rest of the woke liberal media will ignore Madrone's remarks. If they don't; they will spin it or defend it or only address it because of this post. I am not defending First District Supervisor Rex Bohn's tasteless joke but Madrone has nothing of substance to say ever and today he blew it. You can't eviscerate Rex but have a double standard for Sungnome.

Second District Supervisor Michelle Bushnell is the only one that wants to work.  The rest want to continue staying home and collect their outrageous salaries.

Humboldt County Health Officer Ian Hoffman provided some helpful information as did Human Resources Director Linda Le. The rest including Public Health Director Michele Stephens, County Counsel Jefferson Billingsley, Third District Supervisor Mike Wilson, Fourth District Supervisor Virginia Bass and Madrone are lazy.

Your employers are the taxpayers. Gavin Newsom, CalOSHA and you get your salaries paid by taxpayers. We are your bosses.

Most of the County Board of Supervisors and top management are lazy and as usual, have no clue what the Governor or state will decide; so much for their supposed connections in Sacramento. Don't use COVID and CalOSHA to continue and deny public access and "work from home."

In private industry, a person gets paid for results. Local businesses devastated by COVID 19 closures and restrictions do not have the luxury to stay home. Nor do nurses, doctors or law enforcement.

Humboldt County Health Officer Dr. Ian Hoffman said "as soon as we get clarification"; the standard local response to everything regarding COVID 19. By the time the BOS and Humboldt Public Health put out a press release; I already know what Gavin and the state is doing directly from Newsom, regional and national media.  It is called working, not waiting for information to be handed to you

Dr. Hoffman said "the blueprint retires June 15. Public meetings are allowable. Rather than requirements, there will be recommendations for private gatherings." Unlike private spaces, vaccination and test proof is not required for public space. Mask and social distancing will be enforced but not required, said Hoffman.

Billingsley made excuses about Newsom's executive order but he doesn't know if it will be lifted June 15. Le pointed out the liability from CalOSHA for an employer for violating COVID 19 compliance. Le said CalOSHA trumps CDC and Public Health.

Madrone started his remarks by saying, "I truly respect everyone's right to chose whether to vaccinate or go into a congregate setting and respect people's personal choices."

"As long as COVID is around in our community, I am not interested in congregating," said Madrone. "Even though I am vaccinated, I am in my 70s and am immuno-compromised. " Everyone in his family is vaccinated, he said.

"In my family, no one has been sick for 14 months," said Madrone. He then went on to say that from the pandemic we learned "shaking hands is a bad idea" and then said "Oriental societies had it right."

As long as employees are productive, Madrone  wants "to respect employees choice to work from home." Who determines what is productive? Not everyone can work from home and not everyone works for the government.

Wilson basically hid behind CalOSHA. Bass said having people in the BOS chambers creates more work for staff. The concern for cleaning staff is bs. Most of the Supervisors just want to stay home where they avoid the public, accountability and get paid the same.

Supervisor Bushnell wants to work. She also understands the impact on the public, and private industry.

"I hear what Supervisor Madrone said. I am curious.,"She asked Dr. Hoffman about the remark by Madrone  that he was not coming back until COVID 19 was circulating. "Will there be a zero in the forseeable future?"

"I think COVID is here to stay," said Dr. Hoffman. "The vaccine works well and prevents people from being severely ill" or death. He said there has been some illness in people who are vaccinated.
