Jury pool being questioned in convicted spousal rapist's trial

Jury selection for convicted spousal rapist Scott Eden's trial started today with the jurors being questioned by the Judge first and then the attorneys.

The second jury trial started May 17 with motions in limine and individual jurors being questioned.

Due to privacy, individual jurors being questioned is not livestreamed. I am not sure why motions were not livestreamed unless there was a request due to the nature of the case.

Eden's first jury trial resulted in a mistrial. The charges for the original filing were PC 262 (a) (1) spousal rape and PC 289 (a) (1) forcible sexual penetration with a foreign object.

It seems from the questions today that this trial is on a petition to declare Eden a sexually violent predator. Today, was the first day of jury selection. I was not able to cover the first trial.

One juror said he had anxiety issues. There have been audio issues in Courtroom 1 today and 2 so very difficult to hear. People and attorneys also need to step up to the mic.

Since COVID 10, access to records is restricted and there has not been much information in the hearings so I will update this post when I can find more about charges.

Del Norte Superior Court Judge Robert Cochran has been assigned to the case. Assistant Deputy District Attorney Stacey Eads is the prosecutor for the case. Deputy Public Defender Wade Orbelian is Eden's attorney.
