BOLO for suspect involved in two burglaries and OIS

On 07-03-2021 the large scale search and apprehension efforts in Elk for William Evers were concluded due to unavailability of continued mutual aid law enforcement resources.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office will continue to have a presence and will be conducting smaller scale search and apprehension efforts.  The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office will also continue to utilize mutual aid assistance and resources as they become available to increase these ongoing efforts.

At the present time William Evers is believed to be traversing and occupying an approximately 7-square mile area.  This area is boarded by Highway 128 to the north, South Highway 1 to the west, Philo Greenwood Road to the south, to approximately 5-miles east from South Highway 1.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office wants to remind the public that William Evers should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone who observes suspicious activity or possible sightings of William Evers, especially those persons who are along Cameron Road, are asked to immediately notify the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office by calling 707-961-2421 for non-emergencies or 9-1-1 if it is an emergency.

Update 6/16/21:

On 06-14-2021 at approximately 5:00 PM the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office received a report of a burglary occurring at a residence located in the 3000 block of Cameron Road in Elk, California.

The homeowner was away from the residence and noticed the presence of a person who appeared to be William Allan Evers inside the residence based upon live-time footage from a security camera (see attached photographs).

It should be noted this was the same residence that Evers was believed to have burglarized on 05-12-2021 which resulted in the officer involved shooting documented later in this press release.

Due to the notable public safety risks associated with responding to the residence, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office requested additional specialized SWAT personnel from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, Humboldt County Sheriff's Office, Lake County Sheriff's Office, Santa Rosa Police Department and Mendocino County Multi-Agency SWAT team.

Since the evening of 06-14-2021 to date (06-16-2021), these allied agencies have been assisting the Sheriff's Office with a search of the heavily wooded Cameron Road area in an attempt to locate Evers.

These search efforts have been unsuccessful as of 06-16-2021 at 3:45 PM and will conclude at 6:00 PM until further search operation(s) can be planned for the future.

Evers is currently wanted for an active No Bail arrest warrant by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for Criminal Threats (422 PC) and should be considered ARMED AND DANGEROUS.

The Sheriff's Office is asking residents living along the South Coast of Mendocino County, Anderson Valley, Comptche and the western Ukiah hills to be aware of your surroundings when out in forested land.

We ask the public if there are any sightings of the suspect, immediately contact law enforcement.  We are also asking any property owners who have remote cabins or property to be aware of the potential for a burglary at your location.  The suspect has been captured on additional surveillance footage from February (see attachments) in which he is seen stealing a rifle from the location.

Original Press Release:

On 05-12-2021 at 9:34 PM the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office received a report of a burglary occurring at a residence located in the 3000 block of Cameron Road in Elk, California.

The homeowner was away from the residence and noticed the presence of an unknown adult male inside the residence based upon live-time footage from a security camera (see attached black/white photographs).

Sheriff's Deputies were responding to the residence when the homeowner reported the adult male had exited the residence.  The Deputies arrived approximately 22 minutes after the homeowner first reported the in-progress burglary.

Sheriff's Deputies encountered the adult male outside of the residence and a short foot pursuit ensued until the adult male discharged a firearm multiple times at one of the pursuing Sheriff's Deputies.

The Sheriff's Deputy returned fire and no one was injured as a result of the exchange of gunfire.

Several local law enforcement agencies responded to the "shots fired" radio call and assisted the Sheriff's Office in a search of the area for several hours.

The search was unsuccessful in locating the adult male.

The local law enforcement agencies consisted of the California Department of Fish & Wildlife, California State Parks, California Highway Patrol, Mendocino Major Crimes Task Force, County of Mendocino Marijuana Enforcement Team, Mendocino County Multi-Agency SWAT team, Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Investigative Bureau and the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office.

Mendocino County District Attorney's Office Investigators are conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the Officer Involved Shooting while the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office is investigating the reported burglary.

An active search in Elk is continuing on 05-13-2021, as it is believed the adult male is traveling by foot and is still considered to be armed and dangerous.

Sheriff's Office investigators believe the adult male is the same person depicted in the color photograph (see attached) taken in early February 2021 in connection with several vandalism/burglaries of cabins in the area of Pine Ridge Road and Low Gap Road in Ukiah, California.

The adult male is also suspected of committing an eye-witnessed burglary of a residence in 4000 block of Cameron Road in Elk on 04-24-2021.

The adult male is believed to be white, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 165-180 pounds and having a red beard.
