HCSO Special Services deputies locate truck belonging to Marc Castagnetto

The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) Special Services Division is searching for a missing Hydesville man in the Mad River area.

On April 4, 2020, at about 2 p.m. the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) received information that missing person 56-year-old Marc Andrew Castagnetto had possibly crashed his truck off-road in the western area of Trinity County near Eight Mile Road. Castagnetto reportedly contacted a friend following the crash, who then notified law enforcement. Following search efforts by Trinity County Sheriff’s deputies, the HCSO was contacted to assist at about 8:53 p.m. Saturday night due to the search area’s close proximity to Humboldt County.

On April 5, HCSO Special Services deputies began a thorough ground search for Castagnetto in the Mad River area. During their investigation, deputies received more information indicating Castagnetto was likely in Humboldt County during the time of the crash. Upon receiving this information, the HCSO took over the investigation and search for Castagnetto.

Today, April 6, search teams responded to the Dinsmore area near the Trinity County line to continue searching for Castagnetto. The HCSO has requested the assistance of the California National Guard to provide air support in the search. As of this afternoon, deputies have not located evidence of Castagnetto or his vehicle within the search area.

Castagnetto is described as a white male adult, age 56, with brown/gray curly hair and green/hazel eyes. He is approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and 200 pounds.

Castagnetto’s vehicle is described as an older model dark green Toyota pick-up truck that is lifted and has 35-inch tires. The pick-up has no tailgate and has a large aftermarket front bumper.
