Who else saw the helicopter that just flew over 6th Street in Eureka?
Yesterday, it was over 6th Street around 7:45 p.m. until 8 p.m. Took this photo this morning around 7:15. The helicopter is hovering around the 5th Street in Eureka for half an hour.
Sheriff William Honsal and HCSO PIO Samantha Karges both confirmed the helicopters this morning were related to press release on April 17 regarding work at the Courthouse.
"They were installing 3 HVAC units on top of the courthouse this morning," said Sheriff Honsal. The work is already done. The helicopter was just doing a preview of the terrain."
Press Release (April 17):
Heavy equipment will be used early on Sunday morning to install two new air handler units on top of the Humboldt County Courthouse and the public is advised to stay out of the area until construction is complete, expected to be later in the day. The air handler installation is part of a larger project to remodel the fifth floor of the building and move the District Attorney-Victim Witness Program to the top floor.
The courthouse is scheduled to be vacated by 6:30 am and movement of heavy equipment will begin shortly thereafter. Streets around the courthouse will be blocked until roughly 8 a.m. California Highway Patrol will block 4th and 5th streets, and Humboldt County Public Works will barricade 3rd and 6th Street, and I Street.
The public is advised to stay out of the area until construction is complete to ensure proper social distancing in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
