HDSO and private citizen add to reward for information on suspect who fired at HCSO deputy

Humboldt Deputy Sheriffs' Organization President Jamie Barney announced today that a private citizen has stepped forward and added an additional $1000 to the reward for information on the motorcycle passenger who fired a gun at a Humboldt County Sheriff's deputy last week.

"We feel so grateful anytime the public steps up and has our backs, especially right after someone shot at one of our members," Barney said. "Like so many other crimes, we need the public's help to solve this case. We would appreciate anyone coming forward with information or anyone else stepping up to help with the reward."

The $1,000 private donation, combined with $4,000 from HDSO, $5000 from the National Police Association and $1,000 from the Fortuna Police Officers Association brings the total reward to $11,000.

"Our deputies have spouses, parents, children, neighbors, and friends in Humboldt County and consider it a privilege to be able to assist stranded motorists - and we are not going to let one criminal with a gun stop us from helping in the future," said Barney. "We need help to bring this shooter to justice, so please come forward if you can help in any way to solve this crime - with information or by adding to the reward."

The motorcycle is described as black with no license plate. The passenger of the motorcycle is described as wearing a dark helmet and a red jacket. No further descriptive information is available about the passenger, driver or motorcycle.

If you have any information, you're asked to call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at 707-445-7251 or the Sheriff’s Office Crime Tip Line at 707-268-2539.
