Shout out to local COVID tip line staff

Imagine how many calls they get. They do follow up. They are kind, professional. They are doing their job.

Eureka Code Enforcement is doing the best they can with resources and challenges of the pandemic. I don't know what other people are experiencing in other places in Humboldt.

Each call from the tip line is forwarded to the appropriate jurisdiction. In a previous post, EPD Chief Steve Watson explained the procedure for Eureka.

Most businesses and individuals are being responsible. It has been community monitoring that has assisted and the tip line is a good tool.

Other jurisdictions in California have eased restrictions and are considering lifting their stay at home orders. They also cite people who ignore the warnings.

This is hard on everyone but those of us following the order should not be penalized because some people think the local shelter in place order does not apply to them.

Repeat offenders put the community at risk. If businesses are given a warning, then fined the second time.  It should be the same for individuals.

EPD and and law enforcement need to start focusing on individuals blatantly violating the shelter in place order because businesses are and have been following stringent rules due to intense scrutiny.

Education has the same effect on local repeat offenders as probation for locals. Repeat offenders don't care about anyone else.

If this shelter in place order not going to be enforced for individuals who repeatedly violate it, then rescind it  because partial application doesn't prevent transmission.
