PG & E moving forward on Humboldt's availability to island using the Humboldt Bay Generating Station

(Previous photo I took when PG & E came to Humboldt )

First District Supervisor shared this today.

"A little good news, we need it! Jim Welsch Sr Vice President for PG&E has provided an update to the availibility of Humboldt being able to Island as we have in the past utilizing our Humboldt Bay Generating Station. Islanding is a positive for you the Customers and our Community.

A large part of the work has been completed and despite the Covid 19 the effort to island is moving forward with precautions in place. Engine controls have been modified, emission controls modified low load testing HBGS engines to adjust load as needed to name few things that have been done.

Things left, Island testing, protection analysis for relay settings and coordinate switch logs, substation modifications and more to be completed in May. Mr Welsch states this should all be good to go by the end of May depending if issues surface but still plenty of time to address. They are continuing fine tuning and transmission upgrades to improve functionality and more options for various unplanned "island" scenarios.

This would not be happening without our neighbors and friends that work at PG&E locally. Big Thanks to Mr Welsch  And Andrew Vesey CEO President PG&E and our direct local contacts Carl Schoenhofer  Senior Manager Humboldt and North Valley Divisions and Allison Talbot Govt Relations Humboldt, Lake, Mendocino.  Thanks to Sheriff Honsal  for writing the letter with me in October that got this ball rolling. Testing updates to follow, but looks like PSPS wont be our problem unless it is happening in Humboldt!!"
