Judge Canning grants Rocket Dog Rescue request to amend FAC

 

On September 21, I reported that Rocket Dog Rescue filed an application to amend the First Amended Complaint. On 9/21, Humboldt Superior Court Assistant Presiding Judge granted that request. The order was entered into e court today.

Jury selection going on in attempted murder, criminal threats, assault suspect Marion Miller's 2024 case

 

These are two previous posts I did on Marion Automirth Miller.

Yesterday, on 9/23/26, jury selection was going on for Miller's 2024 case in which he is charged with attempted murder, resisting an executive officer, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm with a special allegation for great and  bodily injury and criminal threats.

Retired Humboldt Superior Court Judge Christopher Wilson has been assigned to this trial. Senior Deputy District Attorney Roger Rees is the prosecutor. Ms. Rebecca Linkous is Miller's attorney.

Jenna Moore's restraining order against Shannon's husband James Oxborrow aka Jim Oxborrow was granted by Humboldt Superior Court Commissioner Sarah Kaber. I read the texts Jimbo wrote to Jenna Moore.

Jimbo, you have been quite vocal the last couple days. Quite different from when you were scared to return to Humboldt from Las Vegas because of the threats. Something your husband Shannon told me when I was speaking to him and you both were thrilled with my coverage at that time.

Being butch is not a part time gig. When it mattered, you were MIA in Humboldt. Shannon was by himself, having to calm you down while dealing with threats, taunts, search warrants. I know because I was speaking to him and facing the wrath of yet another Humboldt mob for doing my job. Where was this protect my man routine then?

Jimbo, you and every other mouthy Humboldt loser who has no clue about news, thinks their opinions and biased narrative is journalism and uses Facebook, online, email or in person confrontations to intimidate and silence are under a delusion that your two cents matter. All of you change your opinions, what you think about someone based on how it benefits you and it changes when you don't get your way. 

Flip flopping is something you are familiar with because it sort of like your marriage, divorce ? and getting back together with Shannon. 

Idgaf about your Ingomar Club buddies and you have an overinflated sense of your Humboldt connections. They will drop you like a hot potato if you become a liability to their image and bank account. 

Unlike you, Shannon and the other sycophants who need to hang out at the Ingomar, I declined invites many times and chose not to hang out anymore with the Ingomar crowd. I have been at parties Shannon was present and I have been at parties and houses you and your hubby and most of the Humboldt sycophants were not even invited so get over yourself.

Your hubby Shannon keeps talking to anyone who will give him another 15 minutes of the spotlight. Instead of threatening reporters; if you don't want attention, your hubby has a choice not to give interviews and he should have declined to appear on Inside Edition or HBO and you need to stop yelling on Facebook and creating drama.

Before you accuse anyone else of lies; let's start with your hubby. Which one of his spins should we believe? What he told me, HCSO Det. Shane Steele,  Lost Coast Outpost, Times Standard or anyone else who interviewed him? 

You and your husband suck at PR and damage control. Shannon might as well have no lawyer because he and you have given enough fodder to those who have filed legal action already against you and to those agencies who could potentially file charges against you by opening your big mouths.

Don't blame others for Shannon and your choices and actions. Misdirected anger and unwillingness to take responsibility is a Humboldt plague.

Unlike you and Shannon, your good ole boy Humboldt buddies know better than to argue or piss off someone who buys ink by the barrel. They prefer to do stleath tactics to intimidate like cowards or use proxies; it is the Humboldt way. At least you and Shannon say it to my face.

Now that Jenna Moore and Jennifer Raymond are going to be on Inside Edition and HBO, suddenly no protests or outrage over dead dogs? And crickets from the other local "media" and all other "media" covering the Miranda's Rescue investigation. I said it all along, was this about the animals? All of you attacked and smeared me, where are you now?

Middle School Assistant Principal charged with attempted sex trafficking of a minor

32 year old Ruben Guzman of San Jose was charged by indictment with attempted sex trafficking of a minor and attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.

U.S. Attorney's Office of Northern California released details today.

Ward 3 incumbent and candidate both file 460s

Ward 3 Eureka Councilmember G. Mario Fernandez his 460 today.  I posted on Facebook shortly after 4 p.m.

Donations to Mario have no surprises. Unions contributed and he uses ActBlue.

At 4:32 Ward 3 candidate Janelle Jackson's 460 was added. 

Janelle's donors include Rex Bohn for Supervisor, Glenn Hamanaka and local attorney Jim Morrison.

At 8:30 this morning, after I spoke to CHP Officer Jason Esselman I did this Facebook post.

"Just spoke to CHP Officer Jason Esselman about the Selah Town press release. It has been delayed because it is being approved by regional officers. The basic details are already known to the public which is that Town surrendered to CHP, she was booked on the charge of murder yesterday on a no bail warrant. This update from Officer Esselman will be added later to the blog in a new post if I can verify that tip. Most people are probably interested in when arraignment is and the charges. The press release will either be added to the September 17 post on her arrest or the new post."

10:12 Just checked with the DAs office and they have not received the report from CHP yet. Town's must go is 9/23.

4:11 p.m. CHP just issued this press release. No charges as of 4:17 p.m.

"The California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrested a driver on suspicion of murder after a California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) contractor died from injuries sustained in a crash on U.S. 101 in Eureka. 

On Sept. 16, CHP officers from the Humboldt Area responded to a vehicle-pedestrian collision on U.S. 101 near Sunset Drive. The crash occurred within an active Caltrans construction zone and seriously injured the contractor.

Officers initially arrested the driver, 26-year-old Selah Town of Carlotta, Calif., on suspicion of felony driving under the influence. Town later posted bail and was released.

On Sept. 19, the CHP learned that the victim had died from his injuries. Investigators from the CHP Humboldt Area and the Northern Division Investigative Services Unit, in coordination with the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office, obtained a no-bail arrest warrant charging Town with murder under California Penal Code section 187.

On Sept. 22, Town surrendered without incident at the CHP Humboldt Area office and was arrested again. She was booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.

“Impaired driving has no place on our roads,” said CHP Capt. Samuel Griffith, commander of the CHP Humboldt Area office. “We are committed to thoroughly investigating DUI crashes and will continue working with our law enforcement partners to hold offenders accountable. One poor decision behind the wheel can have life-changing consequences. If you’re impaired, do not drive.”

Earlier in the day, I said I was working on verifying a tip about Selah Town. I did not post it earlier because my original source gave one bit of conflicting information but now more than one source has confirmed. Since anons on other site are putting out partial information, I decided to post what I was told. The part that my sources agree on is that Selah Town shares a chilld with Chace Taylor, son of Fortuna Police Officer Brian Taylor. This photo and others confirm that information. However one source said yesterday they were dating; other source more familiar with both Selah and Chace told me today Chace is Selah's ex. The Taylor's have nothing to do with Selah's choices.

Jake Combs sentenced  today 60 years to life in two Humboldt County cases. The prison term includes a third  case from Kern County.

There are some names expected based on political leanings such as local business owner Melinda Meyers, contractor John Bergel, retired Margery Zwerdling, Central Labor Council of Humboldt Del Norte,  if you have been following my  court coverage of the Hillsdale Apartment lawsuits and are familiar with political beliefs of several attorneys as I am, the law firm of Janssen Malloy the law firm of Janssen Malloy contribution is not news but the name that may surprise some is realtor Marc Matteoli.

Where are the rest of the candidates 460s? Come on Anil show us the money.

I already posted about new Humboldt Superior Court Judge Heather Cooper's ceremony on September 14. Just a few minutes ago, the media received this personal invite from Humboldt Superior Presiding Judge Kelly Neel. She is a class act. I know this because I have known her as a Humboldt Deputy DA, Deputy Counsel and now judge. The public deserves to see for themselves how lucky we are to have Judge Neel.

No press release has been issued but the ceremony is public if you want to attend. It is at 3 p.m.

Heather S. Durand was appointed to the position of Superior Court Judge, County of Humboldt, August 24, 2026.  She will be sworn in on October 2, 2026, and will begin her judicial duties in a criminal law assignment on October 5, 2026. 

Ms. Durand grew up in Yolo County. She earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from Sonoma State University, then earned her law degree from Empire College School of Law. She has been practicing law in Humboldt County for 26 years. Before this appointment, Heather S. Durand worked for the Humboldt County Counsel’s Office since 2018. During that time she was assigned to County Behavioral Health and the Public Guardian’s Office.

Ms. Durand worked extensively on the CARE Court program. This program was created to provide community-based behavioral health treatment and housing support, and has made a large impact on our unhoused community. Humboldt County’s CARE Court program has been widely praised as one of the top ten most successful CARE Court programs in the state. As counsel for County Behavioral Health, Ms. Durand also worked with the Sheriff’s Office and Court to secure expedited psychiatric treatment for inmates in the Humboldt County Jail. She has also been an integral part of the County’s Penal Code §1001.36 Mental Health Diversion program.

Presiding Judge Kelly L. Neel stated that, “We are fortunate and thrilled to be welcoming Ms. Heather S. Durand to our Bench.  Ms. Durand is a well-respected and long-time member of this legal community and I have every confidence she will serve our county with thoughtfulness and integrity.”

Today, Todd Baldwin of Bremerton WA, pleaded guilty in federal court to two counts of online child enticement and two counts of receipt of child pornography. Baldwin, a former High School Operations Manager paid multiple students at Valley Christian High School and Live Oak High School in San Jose to create child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney's Office of Northern California released details today. 

Hearing on County of Humboldt's motion to dismiss Ray Christie's federal lawsuit scheduled for this Friday

 

Unless there is some last minute change, it looks like the County of Humboldt's motion to dismiss will be heard this Friday.

Larson's Mr. Rick Richmond and Ms. Caroline G. Glennie-Smith are the two attorneys primarily working on this lawsuit for Ray Christie. Ms. Donna Sotera Zamora-Stevens joined the team for the federal lawsuit. Ms. Glennie-Smith wanted to appear remotely. Larson Partner Mr. R.C. Harlan and Ms. Zamora-Stevens are going to appear at the Friday hearing.

Just got this text. "PG&E will be performing electric safety work near address redacted. We will be in your area using a helicopter to inspect our electric towers, poles and/or equipment. Our work will take place near your property. We expect work to start mid September and continue for about 4 weeks. We respect your privacy and are only taking images of our equipment."

Gregory Bixler arrested by HCSO on warrant for alleged sex crimes involving a victim incapable of consent

Gregory Alexander Bixler was arrested by HCSO yesterday on a foreign warrant for PC 289(d) forcible sexual penetration with a foreign object of a person incapable of consent, PC 289(d)(1) forcible sexual penetration with a foreign object of a person incapable of consent and PC 287(f) oral copulation on an unconscious victim.

I contacted HCSO Erin Inskip and the warrant was issued from Santa Barbara county.

Rocket Dog Rescue wants to amend FAC

As I had previously reported, Mr. Paul Nathan who is representing Rocket Dog Rescue told me he had made an error in naming other defendants. Today, he filed an application to amend the First Amended Complaint. Shannon Miranda has not been served, the Case Management Conference is not until 1/25/27.

I don't know if they have filmed yet. HBO reached out to Jenna Moore and Jennifer Raymond first, then contacted Shannon Miranda. He and his husband Jim Oxborrow could not say yes fast enough. While the narcissists are on PR tour, where is justice for the dogs?

When I say HBO, there are independent contractors who film and pitch HBO or Netflix or major media outlets.

Jimbo should talk to his hubby before cussing at me. Typical Humboldt ingrate who forgets the abuse, death threats I received when I was the only one talking to Shannon initially.

All the three principals in this personal narcissist drama and many of their followers and supporters that are nasty, abusive and sit online all day, especially on Facebook attacking others.

For the first time, check network status worked. Unfortunately, taking up to 48 hours is not ok when my work depends on reliable connection. It has been spotty for more than 48 hours where I live and work. You don't wait to get paid, do you?

Placer County deputies looking for Derek Spencer who rammed a patrol vehicle, shot at law enforcement, pointed firearms at victims and is wanted for several felonies

"Placer County Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching the Iowa Hill area for a suspect who is armed and dangerous.

The suspect, 44-year-old Derek Spencer, is wanted for several felonies, including pointing a firearm at victims in Placer County earlier today. While searching for Spencer, deputies located him in the Iowa Hill area. Spencer then rammed a Placer County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle and fled the area, prompting the ongoing search. Spencer has fired shots at law enforcement and at law enforcement helicopters.

Everyone in the Iowa Hill area is urged to lock your doors and remain inside.

We will continue to provide updates as more information is available."

9/21/26 update: 

Just before 2:30 a.m. members of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team moved into a heavily forested area, where the suspect, 44-year-old Derek Spencer, was attempting to hide.

The suspect’s location was found with assistance from a California Highway Patrol aircraft using infrared technology. That information allowed tactical teams to develop a plan to approach the suspect.

Several teams then made their way through steep, difficult terrain in the dark. The approach took several hours.

Once the tactical teams reached the suspect’s location, the suspect fired several shots. That led to a standoff, during which the suspect was seen via drone footage starting two separate fires. At 4 a.m. the suspect once again fired shots toward deputies from a berm he was hiding behind, deputies returned fire ultimately striking and killing the suspect.

This suspect went on a dangerous crime spree that took a tragic turn, resulting in the loss of an innocent life. Our hearts are with the family impacted by this senseless and random act of violence.

Just this month Spencer had been arrested three times. One September 3rd he was arrested by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for felony vandalism, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and resisting arrest. He was released on Sept 11th on bond. Then on September 13th he arrested by Folsom PD for burglary. He was released the same day on his own recognizance. On September 15th he was arrested by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office for stealing a car, he was released the next day on September 16th on bond. Then on September 19th he stole a vehicle and guns, and shot at a moving vehicle in El Dorado County. That led up to the incident and manhunt in Iowa Hill on September 20th.

CAL FIRE NEU/Placer County is now working on fire suppression efforts.

This was a difficult operation that required a lot of resources. We appreciate the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
