Kidnapping suspect Chai Her who fled from EPD bewildered he is denied supervised release

OR/bail hearing was scheduled on December 2 for kidnapping suspect Chai Her. It was continued to today by the Court since no supervised release report had been received.

Her's sister was in court. Deputy Conflict Counsel April Van Dyke told Judge Timothy Canning that Her scored a 5 which is "moderate risk" but probation said he is "inappropriate given the nature of the offense." She provided a copy of a handwritten letter from the alleged victim and asked that Her be released from custody.

Deputy District Attorney Steven Steward said that he agreed with Probation's reccomendation . Mr. Steward said the victim called 911 and that Her fled from law enforcement. Her has a prior strike from 2005.

Judge Timothy Canning denied supervised release due to "the severity of the offense. Issues may come up regarding culpability later."
